How to use the Spell list
- The full list of spells is shown at first, sorted by level and then by name, and the header line says how many match, split by level.
- Type a spell name into Search by name. Tick Search the spell text too to also search the rules text.
- Open Class and pick one of the eight spellcasting classes: Bard, Cleric, Druid, Paladin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Warlock or Wizard.
- Use School to pick one of the eight schools, from Abjuration to Transmutation.
- Set Concentration and Ritual to Any, Only or Not.
- Tick the spell levels you want, from Cantrip to 9.
- Choose a Sort by option: level then name, or name.
- Click any spell to see its casting time, range, components, duration, the classes that can use it and its full SRD text.
- If more than 60 spells match, press the button to show the rest. Click a spell again to close it.
- The badges next to a name mark Concentration and Ritual spells, so you can spot them without opening the entry.
Filters are saved in the page link, so press Copy link to share your exact view. Reset clears every filter. To print, filter first (for example, Wizard at level 1), then press Print spell cards to get one card for each spell in the filtered list.
What is the difference between a cantrip and a spell?
A cantrip is a level 0 spell that you can cast at will, without using a spell slot. Spells of levels 1 to 9 each need a spell slot of that level or higher, so the number of casts you get is limited. To see how many slots a caster has at each level, use the spell slots calculator.
Cantrips are the simplest spells to use, because you never have to track slots for them. Higher-level spells are more powerful but cost slots, which come back after rests. In the tool, tick Cantrip under spell levels to show only cantrips, or tick 1 to 9 to show spells that use slots. If a spell can be cast with a higher-level slot for extra effect, the spell’s entry in the list ends with a line labelled “Using a higher-level spell slot.”
How many cantrips, ritual and concentration spells are there?
In the 339 SRD spells there are 27 cantrips, 29 ritual spells and 132 concentration spells; the list shows the same counts when you filter. A spell can be both. The Components line of an open spell lists V for verbal, S for somatic and M for material, and when a spell needs a material, the material is written after the letters.
Which spells need concentration?
A concentration spell stays active only while you keep concentrating on it. You can concentrate on only one such spell at a time, so casting a second one ends the first.
Each concentration spell shows a Concentration badge in the list. Set the Concentration filter to Only to see just those spells, or Not to hide them. Check the duration line in a spell’s details to see how long it can last if you keep concentrating.
Concentration can break when you take damage. You then make a Constitution saving throw, with a DC of 10 or half the damage you took, whichever is higher. If you fail, the spell ends. Concentration also ends if you are incapacitated or killed.
Frequently asked questions
How many spells are in the 5e SRD?
The SRD 5.2.1 contains 339 spells, and this page lists every one of them. The header line shows how many match your current filters, split by level.
How do I find spells for my class?
Open the Class filter and choose Bard, Cleric, Druid, Paladin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Warlock or Wizard. Then open any spell to see the classes that can use it.
What are ritual spells?
A ritual spell can be cast as a ritual, which takes 10 extra minutes and does not use a spell slot. Spells with the Ritual badge are marked this way, and the Ritual filter can show only those.
Can I print spell cards?
Yes. Press Print spell cards to get one card per spell in the current filtered list. Each card shows the name, level and school, casting time, range, components, duration and full text. Filter first, such as Wizard at level 1, to print a small deck.
Are spells from other books included?
No. The spell data comes from the SRD 5.2.1, which is licensed under CC-BY-4.0, so spells from other books are not included. The class lists cover the eight spellcasting classes in the SRD.
Does it cost anything or need an account?
No. The tool is free, needs no account or sign-up, and runs in your browser, with nothing uploaded. Saving spellbooks to an account is coming, and the list, filters and cards will stay free.
